Our story
Good coffee doesn't need a city address
Karoo Coffee Co. is a small-batch specialty roastery in Prince Albert, a one-street town at the foot of the Swartberg pass. We roast for people who care what's in their cup, wherever in South Africa they happen to be.
From a farm shed to your kitchen
It started in 2019 with a secondhand drum roaster bought off a bakkie in Oudtshoorn and a shed borrowed from a sheep farmer. The first batches were rough. The neighbours drank them anyway, then started asking for more.
Word travels far out here. What began as paper bags handed over farm gates became couriered boxes to Cape Town, Joburg and everywhere between. The shed got shelves. The roaster got a name. The recipe stayed the same: buy honest beans, roast them slow, ship them fresh.
Today we roast six coffees, stock the brewing gear we actually use ourselves, and still answer the WhatsApp personally.
How we work
Small batches only
Our roaster takes 5kg at a time. That cap keeps every batch consistent and every bag fresh — we'd rather sell out than roast ahead.
Straightforward sourcing
We buy green beans from importers who publish what farmers get paid. If we can't trace a lot, we don't roast it.
Roasted, then shipped
Nothing sits on a shelf. Orders are roasted in the same week they ship, and the roast date is printed on every bag.
